@keepingitrealpsychology: Can sensory toys support our parasympathetic nervous system??? I am rating my VIP’s and besties to show you the different types of sensory input available 🤸🏼‍♀️ I had a question in an interview recently for a Clinical Psychologist role, they asked ‘If we attended therapy with you, what could we expect to experience’…. (Amongst other answers) I said “You would be presented with a box of sensory toys each session. It’s important to me that the space is neuroaffirming, comfortable and non-restrictive” This is my genuine truth, I am constantly suprised by the opportunities a big fat box of sensory toys can bring to a therapeautic space. Some clients choose not to and of course, that’s fine!! However, most find themselves unknowingly flicking a lizard or a sugar ball around by the end. A lot of my clients even end up having ‘favourites’ and purchasing their own which I LOVE to see‼️ Therapy, engaging with healthcare teams and 1-1 conversations around trauma can feel overwhelming, scary and uncomfortable (at the best of times). I like the idea of providing a space for clients where the felt heirarchy is reduced. (No need to mask, I’ll grab one too!)
