My girls gave me this feedback. I couldn’t understand how the love I so needed, and wanted to ensure they always had, was not what they needed. I was too stuck in my pain and protecting them from my hurt that I missed their actual needs. Every day I ask God to help me undo this harm, one word and one action at a time. 🥰

Kids have to remember that parents are learning too. I'm a parent but I've never raised kids before that so all I know is what I can recall, the good, the bad and the ugly of it. We try, we might not notice what you need but we try and I bet if you knew as a kid how to let your parents know what you need I'm sure they would try to accommodate. 👍 We're all trying.

yes I've heard another man explain that trauma-based parenting can come in two forms: abusing the child the same way you were abused, or trying to give them everything you would have wanted as a child. In both cases, the parenting is about the parent and doesn't look at the needs of the actual child.

I love you, I really do, you are so incredibly talented. But trust me, it’s easier said than done. As parents, sometimes we try and try to understand everything but after all, we are all kinda just improvising. We put in the work, we learn to un-learn a bunch of things but sometimes we simply lose the plot

That’s the circle of life. And when you’ll have kids you will try to feel the gaps of where your parents failed while creating new ones. All you can do as a parent is try your best, really love your kid, consider both their present and future, and understand they are their own beings with needs that can be different than yours. Even by doing so you’ll messed up in some ways, but you will have tried your best
