When my parents immigrated to this country nearly 35 years ago, they planted roots with the same hopes so many families carry - safety, dignity, and the promise of belonging. The reality is, those promises have not always been equally extended. My parents endured hate in a post-9/11 America. I grew up understanding that being first-generation often means loving a country that doesn’t always love you back. As my family and families across this country navigate the fear of losing someone we love… as we carry our passports, just in case we are questioned or stopped, I hold onto the belief that we can raise children who choose compassion over indifference. What we witnessed in Minneapolis last week is not an isolated moment. It is part of a system that demands accountability, humanity, and change. Our children are watching. They are learning what we tolerate, and what we choose to stand for. This is where our work begins. To every single person with privilege who has stood up for our communities as we navigate fear and uncertainty during these unprecedented times, thank you for embodying compassion and community. We need it now more than ever. 🤍

I love this no sleepovers. We don’t allow this either. I have a daughter and only sleepover is with gma but when gma is home alone with no grandpas or boys around.

♥️love it!!!! No sleepovers and yes having 3 girls we did one on one solo dates !!!! And once a year during the school year I allowed them to take a me day with mommy solo too. Just as long as their attendance was great!!!! They are now young adults and we still do solo 😍

I felt all these things - but be accommodating to children who may challenge your rules - I parent differently than I ever thought I ever would - but accommodations need to be made to survive based on mental health challenges, one parent passing / parenting is never what you think it will be - I wish I planned for that so I could be more compassionate and present.
