As a plumber, I’ll stick with an atmospheric gas water heater. I like having hot water still if I lose power.

gas is most definitely NOT on the way out. why u would wanna pay 300 dollars a month to heat your home when gas costs like 40 bucks is beyond me.

It’s code to have a mixing valve on any new hot water heater.

Going from natural gas to electric anything is the dumbest thing ever.

I prefer electric on almost everything. I wish I could afford electric heat too. outside of bad storms I always have electricity. but I can run out of gas or oil. and I have to plan ahead on paying for oil. electric is just there always. but idk

This makes sense if you are in a place where gas prices are high and electricity prices are low from a financial standpoint but by no other metric is this an upgrade.

It’s amazing everyone knows what’s best for you, but don’t know your fuel costs, your usage, or your climate.

Definitely a downgrade. I would love to get natural gas in my home.

I had my gas disconnected 3 years ago and went all electric. The monthly connection fee made it not economical. I have a ventless fireplace connected to a small propane tank now for backup and use a heat pump for my main heat.

Other than the initial cost difference between the units, which would you say is more cost effective to run?

Electric is more expensive you're getting a gas bill no matter what (unless you can actually opt completely out) and most of the cost are fees not usage.
