@gileslivesey: If you have ADHD, this might change how you handle stress, emotions, and pressure entirely. There’s a psychological skill used by elite performers that helps you step out of emotional overload and back into clarity and control — and it works especially well for ADHD brains. When everything feels intense, urgent, or overwhelming, it’s not weakness — it’s your nervous system firing too fast. Learning how to create mental space allows you to respond logically instead of reacting emotionally. This isn’t about suppressing feelings. It’s about regulating them so you can think clearly, make better decisions, and stop unnecessary stress from running your life. If you’ve ever felt like your ADHD makes everything feel “too much”… this is for you. #ADHD #Neurodivergent #MentalHealth #ADHDTools #Mindset

I wonder if this is why I’m brilliant at giving others great advice (but not myself) cos deep down it’s what I should be telling and listening to myself 🥺

But what when you hit the spot where you start asking yourself „who am I“? I often think I don’t have a personality because I change in an new alter ego

It’s based on ACT theory - In ACT you don’t spend much time arguing with thoughts or labelling them as wrong. Instead, we notice unhelpful thinking patterns and practise defusion — stepping back from thoughts rather than getting tangled in them. CBT - reframing. Externalisation. It’s all key mental health approaches.

Thats sort of like giving yourself a different perspective. Having empathy will likely help here. Amazing what our brains are capable of. Have you ever heard of the illusory truth effect? Maladaptive behaviours are a thing too and people often say things that tell you they have maladaptive behaviours. Amazing really what the human brain can do.

This helps me a lot today. Been a spiralling day, but the second I watched your video, I started to see myself from the outside. It doesn't change the situation, but it changes how is see it. Thank you.

Would you consider a follow-up vid giving some concrete examples where you’ve done this? Nice idea but I struggle to envisage what this would/could look like.

This is like speaking to your inner child, you heal your inner child by showing it the safest adult version, you just then stay with it and reach the age you are now and help it out as and when needed as we can have setbacks over and over again
