I got this a lot when I went over there for work over the years. I just started bringing up their menu online in JP and would explain I can see the difference in Japanese and they’d usually quit immediately or apologize

The racism, xenophobia, and sexism issue in Japan is so bad and on track to get so much worse as they head down the same right-wing swing plaguing the rest of the world. I worked in a Sushi restaurant as one of the few non-Japanese staff and it was just insane. So many times I was denied opportunities and told flat out it was because I was not Japanese. Likewise I'd be put in charge of Japanese women who were more skilled and qualified than me because I'm a man, and they "shouldn't have been doing certain jobs at all".
