I agree. When I was an SGT at the time, one of my SPCs come to my and tell me that she wanted to get out. She said that she was scared of what I might say. I saw a lot of potential in this person. We talked about her getting out. One of the things I told her was that she was meant for a lot more than being in the Military. Last year, she contacted me and thanked me for telling her that as she had just completed her PHD in Engineering. Just have some resemblance of a plan when you get out.

I tell my soldiers my experience and why I stayed in but I don’t advocate for retention. I just make sure they have a good plan for their transition out. As much as I want them to be successful while they are in, I want that even more for them if they decide to get out

I was lucky to become a contractor after my 4yrs, then I joined the guard and kept deploying to stay away from my civilian job. It’s helps if you continue in the guard or reserves

Been in 8, 2 branches and 2 year break after coming into my first branch at 23. I’m 32 now with a degree in automotive/diesel. Unless you already have a guaranteed job making more than what your entitlements are, you may want to consider staying in. The grass is not greener and the job market is shit.

I’ve been in 12 years but the last 8 have been Army 2012-2016 I wan the Marines… I was out for around 19 months.. I know what it’s like to look for a job in the 2016-2017 range

I retired from the army as 11 B if you can put up all bull shit go for it I will tell you this the money is not out here like you think the best thing I will tell you is that get you a college degree if not you will have a hard time with my army retired my disability my teacher’s retirement Social Security. It puts me at a six finger man. Thanks to the military.
