I lived in Sweden for 4 years and that was the worst thing about living there. Scandinavians have so much more personality when they are out of the country

Weird question. I’m from Minnesota where the settlers were mostly Scandinavian. Is this the same as SISU? My Finnish gma use to say that to us a lot. I took it as - have a lot of integrity but don’t brag about it..

Jantelagen has been framed as a threat to individual freedom for my entire life, but now in my 30's I'm realizing that personal brand and hyper-individualism is a bigger threat to a working society. No, you shouldn't be shamed for your achievements but like someone else said; Jantelagen is modesty. It's being a part of something and knowing you don't stand above everyone else because you've succeeded in the eyes of capitalism. It's not a bad thing and I think successful people with humility and empathy are the best kind.

I completely understand. Despite being Mexican, my parents raised us not to show our emotions because it's seen as weakness, not to stand out from others because it's presumptuous, to be humble—which isn't necessarily a bad thing if it's not taken to extremes—and not to be the center of attention or boast about our achievements because that's also presumptuous. And it's incredibly stressful, sad, and exhausting. 😔😢
