@60minutes: Grace Corrigan watched the Challenger lift off and explode with her daughter onboard. Christa McAuliffe was set to become the first teacher in space. All seven crew members died in the disaster 40 years ago. Corrigan, who died in 2018, told Lesley Stahl in 1996 she wasn't angry at NASA, but her husband, who died in 1990, felt differently. “[Christa McAuliffe] died because of NASA and its egos, marginal decisions, ignorance and irresponsibility. NASA betrayed seven fine people who deserved to live." #nasa #challenger #spacelaunch

Travis :
They died when they hit the water. They were able to attach a special hose to each other after the explosion. Similar thing happened with the Columbia space shuttle. They saw a tile fall off of the aircraft. The engineers decided not to tell the crew to spare them the agony

Christa McAuliffe finished writing all of her students college recommendations before the launch. That’s how much she loved her students, and how committed she was to their education.

As a mother… I cannot imagine how traumatizing and awful that must have been for the parents in the audience.

You can blame Reagan for the “launching no matter what.” He didn’t want to ruin this PR moment for the space program despite what engineers told him.
