I never got to go to my dad's funeral because he was states away. I saw him before he passed, while he was still on hospice, but the stroke took away his ability to speak. He could hardly even lift his head to look at me. I'll never know if he truly recognized me in that moment. It had been 9 years since I had last seen him. I still haven't even been able to visit his grave stone, and it's been 5 years since he passed away. It hurts so deeply, being so far from my family.
