“it’s citizens now” is so gross. I’ve heard it so much largely. I’m grateful for you and other authors/ teachers for educating and sharing on my wake-up, and continuing to fine tune it. Freedom and equality are a birthright for all of us. We’ve gotta collect our people and correct their waking up right now.

I agree with this we've been screaming for YEARS about mass incarceration and what they've been doing to citizens for decades but everyone was FINE with it because they were labeled a criminal

the only other thing I can think of (outside of the obvious, I mean) as to why this time seems different, more noticed, or less ignored, is that in both of these instances took place on camera and people saw it happen, leaving zero room for spin. Just like when it happened to George Floyd. when its a story on the news using only words, or maybe footage of yellow tape around a crime scene, it happens so much people's brains tune it out or we'd never be able to function. George Floyd was the first murder I ever witnessed. & even though I know thousands of murders have happened since then, that one created actual trauma to witness. so I think its the actual witnessing it that is partly why it's had such a huge impact. its not like seeing someone shot in a movie. which, thank god, at least we haven't totally lost touch w our humanity yet. but I fear that seeing more actual murders happen on video might numb us all eventually as well. without seeing both Good & Pretti's deaths on video would, ppl have noticed or reacted as much? I'm not sure. because how many people have been murdered or shot since? were they on camera? its freaking awful that our society is so saturated by death that we can ignore that it happens every day that it takes having to witness it to get empathy to even register. it definitely has a stronger impact though

Some people want to turn off the alarm clock sound and go back to bed. But hitting snooze just means the alarm will just go off again in five minutes. and it will be more annoying than the "first" time.

I've been angry. Some people who called me crazy and radical and paranoid won't look me in the eye at my kids school. I want to fight them. My anger is a little out of check. How do you deal with the rage part. How do you not deck everybody in the parent pick up line now they won't look at you.

I mean I'm glad that they're noticing now.. but I also want to tear my hair out that they think this is something new. like how is it that my fellow white women are only just noticing now? how is it that they didnt.. that they think this is... that they're only just now getting worried... the only possible explanation is that they didn't think the other people were people. and now these ones look like real people to them... so I'm grateful that they're noticing that people are getting... but like people have been getting... for a while now... and I honestly have no idea how you have been so patient with us for so long. but thank you

I did not want to face the fact that white men/ people can be so EVIL. It slapped me in the face yesterday realizing this is the pain the black community has felt forever. The racism is horrendous. I am sorry for life being impossible for so many.
