Strange, in NY you don't go to the police academy unless a dept is sending you, which means you would be employed by that dept after it.

I know several people that got hired within months of graduation, don’t give up! I failed field training at my first agency and was able to get on with another so anything is possible.

Start applying at agencies while your in. We had a cadet get hired on while he was in the academy

Illinois you are hired first, then the agency sends you. Ive never heard of someone going with out a sponsor.

Unfortunately training to be a cop has different levels…. City cop and sheriffs department can be done at a community college Peace officer program it’s literally a semester long, then you take an exam and Boom you can be a cop if hired on a department… 99% of State Boys go through an official police academy an are hired upon graduation! Again Levels of training some are highly trained, some recieve local training at a community college usually instructors are former and current city cops..

In Georgia 99% of cadets are sent by an agency. Everyone in my class was sent by an agency

I didn’t look during the academy and wasn’t going to focus on applications and interviews until I graduated. I was approached and hired by my hometown sheriffs office and I started a week after graduation.
