Yes, surrogacy needs regulation & any system can be abused. But no, surrogacy isn’t a process whereby people are forced to carry for wealthy individuals and mothers have their babies ripped away from them. What you have just published (“renting a womb”) was 100% stigma and ignorance dressed up as “commentary.” For many in our community, people who dreamed for years of carrying a pregnancy, surrogacy is not a vanity project or a shortcut. It is a last resort after years of infertility, repeated pregnancy loss, failed treatments, cancer or other (like #mrkh) diagnosis or pregnancies that nearly cost them their lives. Where surrogacy is legal, ethical, and consensual, it is not the public or the media’s role to litigate how someone became a parent - celebrity or not. And let’s talk about surrogates- also in our audience. Stop infantilizing these women. They are not being “saved” by your outrage. Words matter.
