@carolynjpaxton: Retirement myth: "If you pay off your house, you're set!" Well... First, let me say: congratulations if you are mortgage-free! That is a big accomplishment! But, it doesn't necessarily mean you're all set. I used to believe this too... that having no mortgage would mean smooth sailing in retirement. But here's reality: Even with no mortgage, you still have property taxes, insurance, utilities, and upkeep. Your house may be paid off but it never stops costing you. Healthcare costs don't disappear. The average couple retiring at 65 spends over 300k on medical expenses alone! And daily living expenses? Food, gas, travel, and inflation keep going up. The average retiree household spends over 50k a year. Without other income streams, you risk being house rich but cash poor. That's why, at 58, I started building a second stream of income through affiliate & digital marketing. Specifically, high-ticket digital products. This means cash flow, independence, security, and peace of mind. Don't just aim for a paid-off house. Aim for freedom. I made the decision to invest in a beginner-friendly digital marketing course that showed me exactly what to do. Comment INFO and I'll send you a free video that teaches step-by-step how to get started earning income online with affiliate and digital marketing. Then you can get started too! Don't want to wait? Put your email in my bio and I will send right over. Make sure you follow me If you have questions or just want to chat about this, my DMs are always open. #affiliatemarketing #digitalmarketing #makemoneyonline #midlifewomen #womenover50

I live in a 480,000 dollar home that’s paid off and I find it’s very affordable compared to the alternatives

I absolutely just spoke about this on my live last night! Ca-razy that we pay taxes on a house we’ve paid taxes on since we purchased and after we OWN the dang thing! (Where’s the “cross-your-arms-and-stomp-your-foot”emoji?) 😤😤

Better than renting. How is paying off your primary home a negative even if you are not retired

Property taxes insurance utilities repairs. Some people when they retire cannot cover that even when house is paid off.

It’s wonderful having no mortgage. Sure, there’s taxes and insurance and some maintenance. Before we stopped working, we went around and repaired everything that might need it in near future. We have so much extra cash without that mortgage.
