@ldnursenextdoor: Bottle feeding for the first time 1. Most hospitals have multiple varieties of similar and enfamil 2. Once baby drinks- bottle is only good for one hour (at home you can refrigerate the rest in a separate bottle before baby drinks out of it - good for 24hours) 3. Get an idea of baby’s pace- let them suck for a bit, see what they took and then carry on. Take breaks to burp and pace them so they don’t drink too quickly. 4. 15-20ml is usually what we recommend for the first feeding (you will gradually increase based on baby’s hunger cues and feeding frequency) 5. If you choose to bring your own formula - most hospital policies will to allow staff to assist with preparation so have all of your supplies ready. Some hospitals even offer donor milk to supplement with if needed.
