The Acute Thrombus: A Ticking Time Bomb 💣 • Appearance: Usually hypoechoic or even anechoic (dark). It’s easy to miss if you aren't compressing! • Texture: Looks spongy and "fat," often distending the vein wall. • Risk: Because it is poorly attached and has a high potential for a mobile tail, it can easily break off and travel straight to the lungs. 🫁 The Chronic Thrombus: Stable & Scarred 🛡️ • Appearance: Highly echogenic (bright) and sometimes even calcified. • Texture: Firmly scarred to the vessel wall and often contracted/shrunken. • Risk: Much more stable and less likely to embolize, though it may leave the vein looking narrow or thickened.
