"If that's SA then I guess what happened to me was SA too right?" like yes. Yes it was.

Its because they dont see the power dynamic, they think that they were the one in control and had power over the teacher, take that away from them and they realise.

Elder millennial here. I blame Dawson's Creek which is a television show around the time that kind of glorified and normalized female hs teachers and their teenage male students...

My ex said I “ruined” his memory of losing his V card because he was 13 and she was 19. Yeah bro, that’s like NOT ok.

A 16/17 year old does not have enough rizz to convince a full grown adult to sleep with them. That adult used their position of power to sleep with a minor. A child.

Also, if you're already 18 but in your senior year or if you recently graduated - that's still not OK

Different scenario, but I didn't know I was a victim till I read an identical story from a woman. I knew I hated it. but I genuinely didn't know I'd been 🍇ed. After talking to others, I know several other victims of women & none of us are stats anywhere.

this is unfortunately not seen as assault by these victims until later due to the toxic and very dangerous social belief that its cool if youre a younger man and an older woman wants you. in reality, its not okay at all and that woman is just taking advantage of teenagers not knowing better.

When you bring up the issue they say “men and women aren’t the same” but never really give a definite reason for this except physical strength difference while ignoring that every man isn’t stronger than every woman and strength isn’t the only force of power.

As a Gen X’er, this type of behavior was normalized. We had a coach in a relationship with a student. It was an open secret that no one talked about. Maybe a month after she graduated, they were married and they moved. Basically, they moved so he could continue teaching and coaching in a place no one knew he had once been her teacher and coach.

I was convinced that I wasn't a victim as the effects slowly ate away at my mental health and my ability to have a healthy relationship.

you can also be a victim of something and not feel overwhelmed with emotions about it. I feel like their views of what a victim is has just been so warped.

People need to stop with this mentality with male victims that if your perpetrator was an attractive woman that you should’ve liked it.

I won’t ever make someone identify as a victim (there’s a lot of work that goes into processing that isn’t right for me to force on to someone potentially further traumatizing them), but I will always make sure they know they were taken advantage of and what happen to them was wrong. And that I’m sorry it did.

Also it’s ok to not feel like a victim or be called a victim.. I call them survivors!! You don’t need to victimise yourself because you went through something you don’t want to clase as assault. But it helps you accept it and go through life with a better understanding once you come to terms with it

I don’t think focusing on the age is really gonna help them understand. It’s not like there’s a magical switch that turns on when you turn 18 that then means you’re capable of understanding what the long lasting effects are of sleeping with someone in a position of power over you. She could have been a senior, and be 18, and the situation would still be the same. She’s a victim because her coach was an authority figure over her that used his position of power to take advantage of her. He used the gap in experience and understanding and maturity as a way to assure her it was normal and okay. The same way these male victims were abused and groomed. Being “under 18” is the primary legal issue, but not where the actual crux of the issue lies.
