@tinyheartseducation: If you ever notice a sudden rash on your child, this simple check can help you work out if it's something serious or not. Press a clear glass or your finger firmly against the rash for a few seconds, then release. If the rash fades or changes colour: this is called a blanching rash. It's a reassuring sign. If the rash stays the same and doesn't fade: this is a non-blanching rash. It means there's bleeding under the skin and needs urgent medical assessment to rule out serious infections like meningococcal disease or sepsis. For melanated skin: rashes can be harder to see, especially early on. Check paler areas like the palms, soles or tummy, and look for other warning signs like fever, vomiting, being very sleepy or hard to wake, cold hands and feet, or fast breathing.
