@mhara_starling: A question I receive rather frequently is why I do not refer to myself as a “Gwrach” when describing myself in my native language. The answer to this question is complicated. The term “Gwrach” in and of itself developed from words used to denote something repulsive. It then became a term for the monstrous, and eventually came to mean “Witch”. I know many who choose to reclaim this word, but I personally prefer not to. To me, our language has so many other terms that are often overshadowed by the more commonly known “Gwrach”. So today I thought I’d explore some of these terms once again! So what terms do we have to describe magical practitioners in Cymraeg? This isn’t an exhaustive list, just a quick Look at some of my favourite words! Drawn from history and lore, but still possible to be applied to modern day practitioners of magic. #welshwitchcraft #welshfolklore #welshwitchtok
Thank you for this. I have been researching for a new book. My family history on my father's side, The Vaughan's of Brecinshire. I am certain this is where my magic side comes from.

I chose Gwrach as part of my username out of a little bit of ignorance it seems. I had only heard it in relation to Gwrach y rhibyn. Going by this, what I was aiming for would be closer to Awenydd

Do you have any recommendations on learning the language? I have a sneaking suspicion the average language app won't cut it alone.
