Hip pain? The hip itself is rarely the only problem. When the muscles around your hip aren't strong enough to control load and movement, the joint ends up absorbing stress it shouldn't have to. These 3 exercises rebuild that strength and stability 👇 1. Modified Side Plank Hold — Targets the hip abductors, the muscles responsible for keeping your pelvis level when you're on one leg. When these are weak, everything from your lower back to your knee pays the price. 2. Single Leg Bridge — Builds strength through the glutes and posterior chain on each side independently. Training one leg at a time exposes imbalances that a double leg exercise would never pick up — and those imbalances are often at the root of hip pain. 3. Banded Lateral Walk — Directly loads the hip abductors and glutes through movement. This trains the hip to control load in the exact way it needs to during walking, running and any single leg activity. Always do these on both sides — not just the painful one. The non-painful side is often weaker than you think, and keeping it strong is what prevents the problem from shifting across over time. Aim for 3x per week. As the muscles around your hip get stronger, the joint becomes better supported — which for many people means less discomfort with walking, stairs and activity over time. These are general exercises and may not be appropriate for every type of hip pain. If symptoms aren't improving, it's worth getting a proper assessment. 📍 Clinics in Narrabeen, Brookvale & Newport, Australia 👉 Book via the link in our bio 📲 Follow us on Instagram @physiowardsports.rehab #hippain #hiprehabilitation #physiotherapy #sydneyphysio #northernbeaches
