@africaintheworldfestival: How has Nigeria responded to the US’s approach to tariffs? At our #africaintheworld2025 festival, this was a question on everyone’s lips, and who better to ask than Dr Jumoke Oduwole – Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment - a policy reformer, legal expert and one of the stars of the Tinubu administration. But, to quote Ms Oduwole, “the world is a big place,” and what the US is up to is not the only story. So, while she did answer this question – short extract here – the conversation also focused on what the current administration is doing to address Nigeria’s stagnant economy, including efforts to revitalise investor confidence and accelerate economic growth. And, as the minister said, the results are starting to show. It’s a precise and direct back and forth moderated by economist Reza Daniels, and not without some difficult questions from the audience.
