I CAN ANSWER THIS: the Lego company was facing BANKRUPTCY and (in an effort to reduce downsizing or complete dissolution of the brand) they cut the number of various kits and retired products. They then leaning into and focused more into tie-in marketed sets (LIKE HARRY POTTER AND STAR WARS!)
