Pax Silica — What is it and how is the Philippines involved? The Philippines has always been rich to minerals that are needed for productions and projects. It is not surprising that other countries will have to ask us for their very own needs— just like the Pax Silica. But what it is for us? What do we, the filipinos, gain from helping them by sacrificing our natural resources? WHAT IS PAX SILICA? According to U.S Department of State, Pax Silica is the flagship effort on AI and supply chain security, advancing new economic security consensus among allies and trusted partners. It is a U.S-led international initiative launched in December 2025 aimed at building secure, resilient, and innovation-driven supply chains for technologies foundational to the artificial intelligence (AI) era—especially silicon and critical minerals. HOW IS THE PHILIPPINES INVOLVED? Our country is rich in minerals—approximately the fifth richest country in nickel, copper, gold, zinc, and silver which is needed for the production, but the U.S said that they want to process these minerals locally by building a processing plant for AI, needing over 4000-acres of land to build it. The U.S stated that this will promise more jobs and advanced technologies not only in the country but also around the world. But will this really come true? Do we really think that this “promise” will come true after knowing the history of our land wherein we had been betrayed by the same country for more than one time? This 4000-acres of land could fed the hungers of many filipinos, give homes to people, and provide jobs, but what are we doing? Trading it to build a supply chain where we don’t even know how much we will benefit from. And even if we do know the benefits, even if we do know that there will be people who will benefit from it, we are leaving out the majority of filipinos in the country for the sake of supplies for other countries to benefit from. Majority of filipinos has already been suffering, and now we are giving them more reason to suffer for selling off thousands of hectares of our land for a data center. Again, Microchips cannot be eaten by the hungry. But the food that could be produced in this land can. The jobs that could have been done in this land can give us these. The homes that could’ve been built in this land will protect many filipinos. The amount of help that this hectares of land could’ve given to the crisis of the filipinos and towards the country itself has been brushed off just to be a supplier. A supplier that will act as a host for a parasite to eat from. ✍️ JOSSA CORPUZ & Ayesha Madayag 🎨 Ayesha Madayag #fyp #creatorsearchinsights #no #trendingphotos
