And now that you’re finally choosing yourself, they misunderstand it as selfishness. But protecting your peace is not selfish. Setting boundaries is not selfish. Learning to love yourself after being taken for granted is not selfish. It’s healing. It’s growth. It’s self-respect. Sometimes, the kindest people are the ones who get hurt the most because they give too much of themselves. And when they finally learn to stop, people don’t recognize them anymore. I agree with this so much. You weren’t selfish—you were just finally tired of being the only one who cared.
