Disney went a different direction and signed a licensing deal that lets Sora generate videos using more than 200 Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars characters, plus a major investment relationship. That is a legal power move. Disney keeps ownership of the IP, sets the rules for how the characters can be used, builds guardrails around brand safety, and gets paid, instead of spending years chasing infringement one upload at a time. Enforcement matters, but it doesn’t shape technology by itself. Licensing does. Disney is basically saying: We’re not asking how to stop this, we’re deciding how it gets built.
