I love this. Him going back to his old self before loosing himself. The ghoul is just a mask, a character he acts just like in the past when he was an actor. He is acting to keep himself sane and alive so seeing himself break down to himself pulls on some strings. Especially after Lucy and him were traveling he was slowly reverting back to be Coop. Also, just imagine everything that went through his mind while being trapped on that pole for hours after finding out his family was alive.
