@therealniccoy: Some of you aren’t “triggered.” You’re discerning. Healing isn’t always soft. Sometimes it’s anger with boundaries. Sometimes it’s realizing you survived things you were never meant to endure quietly. This isn’t bitterness. It’s pattern recognition. And no — your nervous system isn’t broken. It adapted brilliantly to chaos. If this hit… welcome to Let’s Get Real. Save it. Share it. Sit with it. #L#LetsGetRealT#TraumaInformedH#HealingWithoutBypassingsurvivorvoice #mentalhealthmatters
I’m slowly coming to this realization. I used to explain away my mother’s behavior, but as I’m learning more about narcissism—painfully—I’m having to accept that things like keeping me small, discouraging friendships, never complimenting me, putting me down, and not teaching me independence weren’t innocent. They were ways of controlling the narrative, even though I used to empathize with her.

💯💯💯💯💯 7 mental health professionals over 20yrs refused to tell me this. And I kept seeking therapy to learn what was “wrong” with me. The 8th one did and I call her the therapist that ended all therapy. Turns out I was never the problem. I never had to go back to therapy and 30yrs of depression literally left me and has not returned

Your therapist CAN and SHOULD say those things or they are NOT a good therapist

It took awhile but someone once said “You teach people how to treat you” and I won’t do that anymore.

I'd like to add: healing sometimes is painful (even though it supposed to be healing = good). The reason why it's because in order to grow you need to spend time in your uncomfortable emotions. Sometimes alone and lonely (when you chased the love all your life and the answer is in the solitude).

Social media is full of estranged parents quietly pouring out their raw grief—missing birthdays, holidays alone, unanswered messages—and yet, through all that pain, they still speak with love, still hope, still hold space for their kids without bitterness. That enduring hurt isn’t weakness; it’s proof of how deeply they cared and still do. Real love doesn’t just switch off, and their broken hearts show they were (and are) truly loving, caring parents. ❤️

But my therapist does say these things to me just in many more words. He’s wonderful

That last one was a punch in the gut. Literally no one protected me, even when they knew things were going on.
