I’ve been tattooing on fake skin for a year and I’m still doing it, but I think it’s best to slowly start working on real skin too. Start with simple designs—maybe pieces where you only need solid black areas and let the natural skin tone do the rest. For me, the transition to real skin was very difficult, especially after getting used to fake skin that absorbs ink very quickly. I had areas where I couldn’t properly saturate real skin because I was moving the machine the same way I did on fake skin. There’s also a big difference between how a tattoo looks on fake skin and what you can actually achieve on a real person, and that can affect you mentally. It’s definitely good for the people you tattoo if you spend a lot of time practicing on fake skin. But from a personal growth perspective as artists, I feel it can limit real progress—because true development happens on real skin.

The technical skill level is not the only problem when people go too soon on real skin. Most don't have proper understanding of higiene and cross contamination.
