@vaskiniris: 2025 in Review: Culture, Cuisine & Community with Thessaloniki 2025 was truly a memorable year for our San Francisco–Thessaloniki Sister City program. I’m continually honored to have been appointed to chair the SF–Thessaloniki Sister City Committee, and to collaborate closely with Mayor Daniel Lurie, our consulates, local leaders, our international partners, and the SF Office of Protocol. San Francisco has 19 sister cities worldwide, and Thessaloniki is proudly our Greek sister city—founded 35 years ago by Mayor Art Agnos and the Mouroufas family to promote people-to-people diplomacy. This year, we reconnected with our Greek and Greek American communities, celebrating the music, food, and art of Thessaloniki—an open, diverse port city founded by Alexander the Great and a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. A major milestone was launching San Francisco’s first-ever Greek Food Week, a citywide program spotlighting the global influence of Greek gastronomy through our local Greek and Greek-inspired restaurants, small businesses, and chefs as true gastro-diplomats. It was also an honor to engage with the SF Greek Film Festival and meet the incredible film creatives who visited us from Greece.
