@brynn_ann: How to Feed Your Sourdough Starter Daily Routine If you’re storing your starter on your counter and feeding it daily, finding the right feeding ratio is key. Feeding Ratios to Start with: • 1:2:2 → cooler environments • 1:3:3 → warmer environments Signs Your Starter Needs a Higher Ratio: • Strong smell of alcohol, acetone or vinegar • Thin, watery consistency When your starter is strong, healthy and well balanced, changing your feeding ratio mainly affects how fast it peaks. #sourdough #sourdoughstarter #sourdoughbaking #sourdoughbread #sourdoughtips

I’ve been feeding 1:5:5 because it was smelling like alcohol and very thin. It got better but now it seems like at the 12 hour mark if it very thin and starting to smell again, almost like I should feed again? My house is around 70 degrees.

Help please!!! I need someone to tell me if you’re supposed to change the jar every day when doing the ratio??? Why do some leave in the same jar and some take it out when feeding. So frustrated that I can’t get this answer!

You said you in your environment you use a 1:5:5 every day. Is this once a day, and do you bake same time as feeding or use your starter another part of the day

I’m on day 10 of my starter and have been using 1:2:2 with King Arthur flour and it still smells strong of acetone. It is bubbling on top and the bubbles on the sides are getting bigger. It had doubled yesterday and today. Should I change to 1:3:3. It’s been around 75 degrees in the house.

What should I do if my starter is a month old and only doubles after 12 hours at a 1:2:2 feeding ratio? Another creator told me to give up and get an established starter from someone else, but I refused to give up
