and it’s so hard because we’re taught that it’s unethical to not treat a patient because of xyz but like I CANT work with someone who I know I can’t help to the best of my ability

I’m a therapist too, and have a strict “no sex offenders” policy. As someone who was sexually abused as a child, I refuse to see them. Yes, I’m letting my personal experiences dictate who I see, but I honestly don’t care.

Tbh, theres a very specialized area of psychology and psychological behaviorists trained to deal with exactly these offenders. Therapists allowing their personal principles to dictate who they see helps steer the offender toward actually correction and help

this sentiment is so dangerous to spread bc so many people are “sex offenders” because they are on the sex offender registry and there’s so much nuance this take is missing like there are so many different things that can happen for someone to end up with the requirement that they be registered as a sex offender beyond pedophila if you are talking specifically about csa name that and also get curious about what the people who have done the most horrible things you can think of have been through like get curious about that bc once we can address that and work to heal that we will heal the world!!
