as someone who also hates lumps in mash: use a potato ricer, not an electric whisk. the electric whisk does remove lumps but unfortunately it always makes the mash weirdly elastic. I think whisking it with that much force does something to the starch in the potato

I’d recommend getting a potato ricer instead of a whisk cos I did that once and the fucking mess was atrocious 😅

It’s only lumpy if you don’t cook the potatoes enough or use ones that aren’t as good for mash, Maris piper are good ones
