that's not wax for protection. it's actually another layer of medium to deflect the light back into the fiber core. the light bounces inside the fiber core and parts of it escape due to the incident angle. when some light escapes the fiber core, it enters the outer layer which has a different reflective index. the outer layer would reflect it back into the fiber core.

This landed on my fyp, and I’ve been doing fibre for 15 years. Does that mean the algorithm is really on point by somehow knowing part of my career, or is it as wrong as it could be because the last thing I need help with is fibre? 😆

It Doesn’t actually cut the fibre, it scores it and then snaps it. If it tried to cut it it would crush the glass
