They gave my baby his first bath, first bottle, first nail clip, first everything without me being there in the NICU 😕 I was so upset about it and still am 3 weeks postpartum

As a NICU nurse…i get its scary to have parents do the first feed but I will always sit with them and watch so that mom or dad can have that moment with their baby. If I need to take baby or assist, i’m right there to jump in.

I am a NICU nurse and we set mom up with a comfy chair and set her with her baby with a bottle. ofc I am making sure the baby is doing okay but other than that go crazy feeding! Let me know how baby does and if you have any concerns :)

Oh my gosh! NICU nurse of 5 years. Parents first for EVERYTHING if able. All of which include diaper and bottle

They do it for a reason, to make sure they are taking the milk properly(asked my friend who is a midwife why)

As a NICU mom I understand you sooo much 🙁 in my hospital we made a friend groupe of mama to keep an eye on each-other baby while one of us was gone cause the care wasn’t it…..we were sooo angry, I can’t imagine your frustration and sadness that she’s stole that from you

my baby was born 2days ago and had to be in the nicu his first night i literally was just thankful he was getting cared for, i understand frustration with the firsts but id rather be safe than sorry always…

I can’t imagine a single instance of a nurse NEEDING to do a regular feed. It’s one thing if they’re setting up a feeding tube for the first time, but just a bottle???

I will never forget coming in one morning finding out they had given my baby his first bottle. I felt I should just be grateful for his accomplishment, but couldn’t help feeling so sad I wasn’t the one to do it and wasn’t there for it.

My NICU experience was terrible. There were a few good nurses but overall I wish I said more. They probably thought I said enough 😂

Yea as a NICU nurse I would never 😅 anytime there is a first for a baby I will wait for mom/dad to be able to make it to do that first milestone. Promoting bonding between parents and baby is such an important part of the job. The only time I will ever do a first is after I’ve asked parents a few times and they say they don’t mind. So sorry this was your experience! 💕
