I think the issue is that especially against celebrities it HAS to be that way. Im not saying its great, but because of fan culture where celebrities can do or say anything and never be effected because their fans will support it all, people feel the need to go in the other direction. So you have two polarized groups, one who doesn't care what a person does and one that looks very close at everything they do

I agree! It makes the internet so hostile and ruins the ability to discuss because then I think people get preemptively defensive and even if there could be a discussion or critique of their take, no one is a position to hear that if they are so used to people engaging in bad faith.
