As a home owner there maybe truth to the first slide but consider this, I bought a home in 2008 for 220k sold it in 2023 for 475k, profit was 265k, I bought a newer house and used the profit to put down 130k and the rest in savings.

Jill’s car became unreliable and in turn so did Jill. Jill lost her job and with her car stuck at the repair shop due to an unpaid repair bill. Jack gets to work on time and doing so while getting great gas mileage, he also drives for Uber and Delivers for them too part time. Jack also writes off his car mileage / depreciation and interest since he is self employed too.

Now do this after 30 years when mortgage is paid off and someone is still paying rent when they want to retire. You have a low payment on house (just property tax and utilities) while rent in 30 years is probably 7k a month plus utilities.

The renting/owning graph is missing an important point: most of your mortgage payment goes back to you because you own the asset, whereas your rent goes completely to another person’s bank account.

houses can increase in value and you can borrow against it if in a pinch, repairs are costly as long as you keep saving up to fix them or use credit and payments it's not bad, and if you can pass it on to kids they will have something 😁

I've owned and rented. Owning is the way to go long term. I could have had my house paid off if I bought sooner. Not only that, you set the future of your family up by owning vs renting. Your next generation can experience generational wealth. You don't get that from renting.

I like how your rent slide fails to add the green equity line for owning and the fact that your mortgage payment drops off when you own the home and rent only ever goes up even as you enter retirement
