My mother was so good at it that we each believed the other one was the “golden child.” It’s wild. I raised my kids by concentrating on the possibility & good things they did. It wasn’t that hard. My mother made it seem like raising kids was an impossible chore.

Yes, and extended family. They only know what was told. No one asked my side. Even as an adult. She triangulated always. She couldn't be friendly with more than one child at a time. Always had one target.
