you pay your monthly premium (payment #1) and then must choose an in-network doctor, then when you arrive you also pay your copay (payment #2) at the office before the visit. Then after the visit, if you have a deductible like most people, they send you a bill (payment #3) for whatever portion is part of your deductible. If you need to see a specialist or get testing, you need to get a referral from your PCP to have it covered, and then repeat all steps 2 and 3... Forever until you die

One time I needed to call an ambulance for myself because I needed to get to the hospital (literally 2 miles away) but couldn’t physically get down the stairs. They sent a fire dept. ambulance instead of a regular one and it was billed as out of network and cost thousands of dollars. I didn’t have a choice though I would have picked the in network ambulance 🙃

Ha. I work for my health insurance provider and even with my insurance I pay the full cost. $257 per visit for my son to see the dermatologist for his acne. I will never reach the $6800 deductible when the provider starts paying. I hope I never reach that, because ai don’t have a spare $7000 😩

I have just learnt what 'IN NETWORK' means! its crazy! if you have insurance it should cover any medical place! not just certain hospitals/doctors

My dad had a heart attack and got put in an ambulance during his bike ride away from home. In that neighborhood, the nearest hospital didn’t take his insurance and me and my family had to pay out of pocket for his treatment including the ambulance fee, taxes, doctor check in etc. he passed away from it and at least we had him buried in the veterans military memorial yard and it was covered.
