Mystic Cinema :
As for the cast Tom Welling wonderfully balances Clark Kent's kind disposition with his heroic alter ego, he portrays him as a terrific character, and Michael Rosenbaum gives a nuanced performance as Lex Luthor, the future main antagonist. Kristin Kreuk completely establishes Lana Lang as her own character outside of being Clark's romantic interest, imbuing her with a genuine appeal and underlying emotional complexity. In this version of Superman, as in others, Jonathan and Martha Kent are wonderful since they assist Clark in making the best choices. John's antipathy for Lex is the sole thing that still irritates me about him, especially since I get not liking Lionel Luthor but venting it on Lex is quite illogical. Regarding the other characters Chloe, Pete, and Whitney, although they aren't given much screen time in this first episode, they are still given a fair enough introduction to their future roles in the series. The relationship between Clark and Lex is by far the most intriguing aspect of the episode, particularly given that they will eventually be one another's worst adversaries. This episode's meteor freak is the least effective since, in comparison to other meteor freaks we'll encounter throughout the remainder of the series, his role and motives in the plot were less clear. Overall, the pilot episode of Smallville is still well-written, creatively directed, and skillfully blends the adolescent drama with superhero mythology.
