I have gravel down already, if I get UN controsoil should I remove the gravel and add the soil underneath, then top it with gravel? Or should I add the soil right on top of the gravel?

i did the switch, have been daily testing daily for over 2 weeks now had the tiniest blip of ammonia (less than 0.25ppm) only about 10-20% of beneficial bacteria is in gravel/substrate so switching it all in one go won’t do much in an established tank!!

I often just soak it in water in a bucket and than do water changes. Sometimes at dennerle bacto elixer. Than test it till it's fine.

Wait wait THATS what caused my insane ammonia spike?! I had a planted 20 gallon a few years ago with two baby loaches and it kept testing insanely high for ammonia no matter how many water changes I was doing. I thought my cat was just straight peeing in my tank and even asked a pet store worker what the hell I was doing wrong. She was just as stumped as I was
