The 'butt' jumping is similar to what you might know as a cannonball, and is one of many different types of splash-creating techniques known collectively in NZ as "bombs". The aim of any 'bomb' is to make the biggest, highest splash. The 'butt' variation where the practitioner tucks their legs up to their body before impact, is known as a 'Manu' bomb. The aim is to make contact with your tailbone/lower back, not your butt or your back.
