“Doomjobbing” is basically panic applying. It’s when the job search starts feeling so urgent that you apply everywhere just to feel like you’re doing something. And I want to be clear: people are not doing this because they’re lazy, careless, or unserious. People are doing this because they need work. Bills are real. Silence from recruiters is real. Ghost postings are real. And after enough rejection, even hitting “submit” can feel like taking back a little control. So no, the answer is not “just be more intentional” like pressure disappears because someone said strategy. Sometimes you may need volume. But volume still needs a filter. Because applying to everything can drain the same energy you need for the roles that actually make sense. So before you hit submit, ask: What problem is this role hiring someone to solve? Where have I solved that before? Is that proof visible quickly? You may still apply to a lot of roles. But don’t let panic make every role look like a possibility. That’s how the job search starts taking more from you than it gives back.
