@mdvmitarashi: Where should you stay in Tokyo, Japan? Tokyo is comprised of 23 wards and where to stay can be overwhelming for first timers. Asakusa ↳ Traditional and historic ↳ Recommended for those who like cultural foods and sites more than bustling nightlife. ↳ Has lots of budget friendly accommodation options ranging from USD$70–USD$150 ↳ Most places close around 6PM & some travelers may feel like it’s too quiet with the limited nightlife. Shibuya ↳ Energetic and hip ↳ Recommended for those who want to experience bucket list activities like walking the Shibuya crossing, seeing the sunset at Shibuya Sky, and Shopping at the Shibuya 109 building. ↳ This is not the cheapest area to stay in with accommodations ranging between USD$100–USD$350. ↳ Not recommended to people who can get easily overwhelmed with extremely busy crowds. Ginza ↳ Upscale and relaxed ↳ Recommended for those who enjoy lots of mid-range to luxury shopping in a very central portion of Tokyo. Ginza is known for having quieter evenings and very clean streets. ↳ This area can feel pricier in comparison to its surrounding neighborhood, districts with lodging accommodations ranging between USD$90-USD$180. ↳ Not recommended if you really enjoy night life, since most of this area is primarily shopping heavy. Akihabara ↳ Electric, Otaku epicenter ↳ Recommended for those who love electronics, anime, manga, and gaming. This area is the global epicenter for otaku culture, featuring numerous themed maid cafes, arcades, and specialized collectibles. ↳ This area is fairly affordable with lodging accommodations ranging between USD$85-USD$150. ↳ Not recommended to those who do not love electronics, anime, gaming, or Otaku culture. There is not much else to do in this area than the things listed. Shinjuku ↳ Vibrant and lively ↳ Recommended to those who are interested in nightlife. Be warned this is the red light District of Tokyo, and not recommended for those traveling with small kids. This district is packed with lots of Izakaya and neon lights. ↳ This area is moderately affordable with lodging accommodations ranging between USD$90-USD$200. ↳ Not recommended for families with small children or people who do not like crowds and neon signs. #japan #japan2026 #japantrip #japantraveltips #japantravel

I stayed in Ueno, but the most important thing is to stay within walking distance a station. You will regret not staying near a station.

Parts of Shinjuku are a red light district (Kabukicho), but even at that, it’s not like a European red light district. It’s still safe and fun…..the rest of Shinjuku is just amazing, and you can get anywhere from Shinjuku station.

I stayed in Asakusa and loved it so much. Loved the quiet at night felt completely safe to walk around. There are lots of nice places to eat but will say it’s far out and can take 30 min to Shinjuku and Shibuya. But loved the vibe.

We stayed in Akasaka, super chill! Close walk to the train. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, the train station is themed 😌

I stayed in Shinjuku and Shibuya. We went back to Shinjuku at night when we stayed in Shibuya. I loved both but would probably stay in Shinjuku again

I stayed in Shinjuku about a 15 min walk from the so called red light district (very safe by western standards) and i found a nice affordable hotel in a quiet residential area. Still central & convenient to shinjuku station and everything else in that area

I stayed in Shinjuku alone and felt safe. I think anywhere you go just be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts.

I stayed in Ginza and LOVED the neighborhood and vibe (I am in my 40s though). I am surprised people do not speak a lot about Toyosu which I found super charming

Stayed at Sumida City, it was nice and easy access to Tokyo Skytree, Asakusa, Ueno and also one train line connection to the Shibuya as well. Definitely recommend if you want to be someone outside the more crowded areas.

What kind of seating do they have in the restaurants? My husband travels over there and says you have to sit on the floor. Is that true?
