I did this before learning anything about Descartes. My brother died and I looked for answers to the big questions via the religion/cult my parents brought us up in. Nothing made sense. I had to have major heart surgery and I sat there in my hospital bed, half conscious, half elsewhere for 4 days examining everything I’d ever thought. I removed all the dross and then covid hit. That gave me time to sort through the other bits - the ‘friends’ who never talked to me, the ‘family’ who took me for granted, the work I was so passionate about. Coming out the other side, I felt so much freer. So much more cantered in myself that I had time to think for a change. Now I question everything, I philosophise via a blog, and look deeply into each and every aspect of ideas that come my way. It’s fascinating to view the world like this.

This is why teenagers in a phase in their life question everything they were given. They need to reject everything and then select which they adopt consciously for themselves. And not appreciating this process, people accuse them of rebellion.

I used to do this a lot now I've kinda become an optimistic nihilism. I value being happy more than anything, even absurd things because if it means I'm gonna die whether internal punishments will happen to me at least I know in my life I choose to be happy
