@digitalnepalofficial: Nepal has achieved an extraordinary milestone with literacy among children under 18 reaching 99 percent. Building on this strong foundation, the country’s overall literacy rate has risen by 10.3 percent to 76.2 percent over the past decade, up from 65.9 percent in Census 2068 BS, according to the National Census 2078 BS. Women’s literacy has shown especially strong momentum, increasing by 12 percent, outpacing the 8.5 percent rise among men, a sign that initiatives focused on girls’ and women’s education are delivering tangible results nationwide. This progress reflects the effects of education being recognized as a fundamental right under the Constitution of Nepal, 2072 BS, along with programs such as free and compulsory education, scholarships, school meal schemes, and the School Education Sector Plan. As a result, most districts have already been declared literate, with only a few in Madhesh Province remaining.
