no wonder I had such bad postpartum depression and issues with healing. I was back to do laundry and cooking the day after. I'm going to do whatever I can to help my daughters and future dils during their pregnancy and postpartum

this is a tradition in many different cultures... In Italy we used to have "quarantena" ("quaranta" meaning 40). After giving birth, the mother was supposed to stay in bed for 40 days and have people take care of her.

As a postpartum nutritionist and mom of two I agree with everything here ! If women would prepare more for postpartum than anything else in their lives - they would have the best postpartums ever !

Same with Mexicans, we cannot do any of that and we need to be covered from head to toes. New generations don’t like doing that but I want to follow old traditions

The Chinese postpartum care can also be really stressful and anxiety inducing because some beliefs are really wild. Like how you aren't supposed to shower or wash your hair for the whole month (this can make you feel really gross esp when you have a baby to care for), or that you got to sit down to drink liquids or your uterus might fall out, and how you're expected to drink the nastiest tonics every single day for healing when there's no scientific evidence they help. But with all that being said, Chinese postpartum care really puts the mother first before the baby which is great.

I’m not Chinese and I followed this with my postpartum care. And will follow this with every birth. I loved the book The First Forty Days and it was very eye opening. This is how all women should be treated.

No wonder my postpartum times felt so hard I was back to cooking and cleaning day after leaving the hospital with all three. And back working with in 2 weeks with my first two. My daughter and futures daughter in-laws will never have to deal with that if I can help it

While mom is on bed rest, what sort of recommended foods, drinks, or care should I prepare to help with recovery? I want to be ready to help.

The same with Indian postpartum care. Focusing on making sure Mom is supported...cooked for...massaged and getting lots of rest. Also eating a food called "panjeeri" a traditional, nutrient-dense South Asian superfood eaten by new mothers during the first 40 days after birth to aid in recovery, boost immunity, and increase lactation...made of all sorts of nuts, seeds, lotus seeds and ghee.
