Chinese here. I think what’s lost in history is that Chiang Kai Shek hid soldiers among Nanjing’s civilian population during the Nanjing takeover used the cover to attack. This caused the Japanese military losses and a a sentiment that the Chinese were “not honorable” leading to “not human.” Hence the tragedy that came afterward. I know it’s not an excuse but rarely do I see my Chinese brothers and sisters truly understand all of the nuance behind how such a situation occurred and how Chiang Kai Shek played a role in it.

Wundorful Woruld :
When governments feel the need to focus their citizens on events of nearly 90 years ago instead of the generations that have passed since, they are doing it with a purpose. Japan has much to be ashamed of in its history. The US does also. China does also. There is a motivation for focusing on a rival country’s past mistakes, possibly several motivations. One is to distract the people from domestic problems that would otherwise occupy their attention and create problems for the government. It happens everywhere, and that includes China.

My spouse is Korean and I didn't know the hatred East Asia had with each other. This was an issue to me and we would have broken up if change would not have occurred. It is stupid to hate a person for the actions of powerful people that do not reflect the sentiment of the people.

If japan would recognize what they did and apologize it would be easier to forgive. if they don't even recognize the atrocities they committed then they don't deserve any forgiveness and all people in asia have every right to hate them.

I don't think Japan cares about you people.
you guys are the only ones talking about this you never hear Japan disgusting the subject.
Japan and world war II maybe kill 15 million Chinese. how about your chairman Mao, 45 million starve to death even the Soviet Union told him to stop the madness. even the Japanese spice of your country we're telling the world the Chinese have gone nuts. think about it for a second 45 million of the worst possible death and you praise this lunatic. telling your babies to eat, digging up the graves to make a special soup. hopefully you know somebody that was alive at that time and see what they tell you. hungry everyday everyday I know because my friend Jerry who's Chinese grandparents that's all they remember, hungry every day. so hopefully you guys think about Nanking before you invade Taiwan you'll be doing the same thing they did to you.
