@jesskbacon: If I was told at school that exercise was a means to boost my energy, help me sleep and give me a natural endorphin boost when I was having a bad day, I would have a much better relationship with movement 🤷♀️ Instead, women are told that exercise is something they have to do as a form of punishment to make themselves smaller, which creates such an unnecessary toxic relationship with movement. I personally love weight lifting, dancing, spinning, swimming, but I haven’t been to the gym in months (and had major gym scaries about going back) after being ill over Christmas for weeks and being busy with book writing last year - and moving it down the priority list. I’ve been loving getting back into it and I’m already sleeping better and feeling my stress chill out before my very eyes😅 if my brain could catch up that this is good for me - for my mental health - and not something I am still low key afraid of as I associate it with toxic diet culture, that would be great, but one day at a time. Anyone else on this journey of retraining their brain not to see movement as a punishment but something that’s really fun and enjoyable? (When you find your thing, of course, and you definitely don’t need to be a pro at it!!) tote, sports bra + jumper @TALA Cute water bottle holder my own! #midsize #twenties #startingover #bodyneutrality #exerciseismedicine

I’m going back to the gym soon after an injury and I’m actually very excited. It’s great for mental health!

I did an 6 hour hike (mostly vertical I swear!!) and my knees by the end were very unhappy. So my new gym goal is to strengthen all the muscles around my knees so I can do a full day hike soon! I also want more agility so I can chase my niece and nephew more easily so I’ll probably try jumping on those scary high squidgy boxes

I have recently injured myself and I cannot wait to return to the gym. I have finally ignored the ‘lose weight’ mindset and I really use it as a ‘I love this’ or ‘this is my favourite thing to do as it makes me feel good’ activity. It will be a while but when I return, I shall be unstoppable 💪💕

I recently started the gym, and I've been enjoying it more than I expected to - and I think my surprise on this is down to the conditioning. (I also have just taken my book with me, and I find that helps 😂)
