This will alter the balance in the ecosystem and microorganisms such as bacteria will thrive. Swallowing water that contains excessive amounts of pathogenic bacteria will lead to gastrointestinal infections or other worse diseases. 2) What beach sand actually looks like The light-colored sand in this beach is mostly composed of grains of quartz. These tiny bits of quartz usually come from inland granite rocks that have been eroded and carried to the coast by rivers. . It’s amazing how uniform beach sand looks, yet under a microscope you can see grains of many different colors. The beach where I collected this sample contains grains of different colors due to minerals such as feldspar, mica, magnetite, garnet, etc. Looking at beach sand under the microscope is like looking at a bunch of microscopic jewels. 3) What sea salt looks like under the microscope Once ocean water evaporates, the salts in the water crystallize, forming the beautiful structures that you can see in the video. . Ocean water contains many dissolved ions, but by far the most abundant are sodium and chloride. Thus, when the water evaporates, sodium chloride crystals form. The perfectly regular cube shapes of the sodium chloride crystals under the microscope, especially when viewed with polarized light, are just spectacularly beautiful! .
