my favorite way of doing it is that both will speak with you at once cause they can't hear each other for example write down what both will say and have somebody speak the other line while you speak yours at the same time

Hmm, I'd personally do a hard arcana check with one spell level higher than the most powerful spell, which would be 4th if I remember correctly. So, congrats, you have invented Speak with Carpentry and you are traumatized by the results 🤣

I'd probably say that they have to make an arcana check to weave the two spells together into a single spell, if they're doing a one-off use of it. If they want to craft it as a fully new spell, it would be several arcana checks over the course of a period of time to understand how to speak with tables, books, and pressed flowers 🤔

A couple of other options, if I may: 1. They take 1-2 points of exhaustion for burning themselves out on two concentration spells; or 2. They can only talk to dead plants, and that goes about as well as you think it will.

You can always use glyph of warding, that will target the furniture item without taking concentration, but it will take longer

i would allow it as long as it's not damaging spells and it gives one point of exhaustion

I would make it give partial sentences.
"you must go east and help the dragon" becomes "you ... go eas .... the dragon"

I would have them roll a spellcraft check to see if they would be able to combine the two taking two spell slots but being cast in the same round. If they pass the spellcraft check they are able to combine the effects if they don't both spells fizzle spell slots used.

There is a spell called Two Minds (no concentration) that allows you to later cast two spells with concentration during its duration.
